Exercise 13: Portfolio Project Plan

A Project Plan is essentially your roadmap for completing your project. In a working environment the project plan can act as a central communication document between you and the client. It tells both parties what is expected both in deliverables and timelines.

You will be creating a Project Plan for your portfolio.  The more detailed the easier it will be to build.  Your project plan should include the following.

  • Project overview (What and why)
  • Schedule (schedule how many hours, what are the milestones)
  • Flow chart(detailing how pages and links will work)
  • Site Sketches (in PowerPoint, hand drawn, or in Photoshop) should include color palette

Show and Tell: Why You Need a Portfolio

Show and Tell: Why You Need a Portfolio

If you are a web designer looking for a job, consider your portfolio to be just as important as your resume.

While your resume will tell an employer or potential client,

  • who you are
  • what type of experience you have
  • and what kind of skills you possess

A portfolio shows an employer or potential client

  • who you are
  • what type of experience you have
  • and what kind of skills you possess

One of the biggest obstacles you may encounter to getting the job(s) you want is experience. More often than not, employers want this experience to come from your employment history.   A portfolio can help you to take experience you have in other venues, (personal study, school, internships, and volunteer work) and translate them into experience an employer or client will accept and respect.
