Take the bus to work? This is for you.

Here’s a nifty tool for those of you who commute by bus. King County Metro has a new service that allows you to receive alert messages by email or text message when your bus route is affected by snow or other circumstances.

Centering with CSS

Posted in Tips and Tricks, Week 4 on October 21st, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

There are several different ways to center elements with CSS.  When you are centering a layout, you generally want to have a ID or class that contains the instructions to center, such as a wrapper.

There is a standard way to center items, that works in most browsers.

#wrapper {width: 800px; margin: 0 auto;}

Now although this will work in most browsers there is of course one “problem child” that does not always display this as center.  If you said Internet Explorer, IE you are correct.  Lucky for us there is an easy workaround that centers even in IE.

body {text-align: center;}

#wrapper {width: 800px; margin:0 auto; text-align: left;}

Zen and the Art of Font –Family

Posted in Tips and Tricks, Week 2, Week 3 on October 9th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

When you are writing a font-family that has space between the words, it must be in quotes.  The type of quotes you use will depend on how you are applying the style.

In-Line

<p style=”font-family:’Times New  Roman’;”>

Note: When we do this in an in-line style, we use a single quote.

Internal or External

h2{font-family:”Times New  Roman”}

Note: When we do this in an internal or external style, we use a double quote.
